We, the candidates of 1st S.T.E.P. For North Penn School District firmly believe in providing the best opportunities to learn in the safest of environments, for the children of the North Penn School District.  S.T.E.P. stands for Students and Taxpayers Expect Progress.

Fiscally, we have all been made aware of how bad things are, not just for NPSD, but everywhere.  Attacking and cutting specifically one facet of the district's expenditures, teachers, is not only inefficient,  but unfair to all charged with educating our children on a daily basis.  All expenditures must be examined line by line.  New revenues must be generated by considering all options, not just limited to tax increases.  This requires a holistic approach to budget management.  We need to seek opportunities to preserve educational programs and reduce the costs around ancillary services.  And we must look at contracts for cost savings.  We need to re-negotiate contracts for better terms and/or pool contracts for reduced costs or actually re-bid contracts to find vendors with lower costs for equivalent goods and services.

Which leads us to our physical structures which are in real need of repair and/or on-going maintanence.  Frequently, repairs are over-engineered, over-planned, and turn into substantial, costly construction projects having gone well beyond the original bids.  However, not giving proper attention and appropriate funds, our buildings and properties will fall into such disrepair, that they would end up inoperable, and unsafe.

Finally, we need to re-establish the pride and respect that was the North Penn School District.  Decisions must be made, not by courting public opinion, but by seeking factual input and support.  A school director should be visible, approachable and in touch with the community that they were elected to represent.  As elected directors to the school board, we are detemined to improve communication channels between the taxpayers, parents, and students, between the school board and the teachers and all support staff.  We feel our school board should offer a presence at school events, perhaps even hosting some.  We plan to keep in touch with the needs of our Home and School Associations, holding regular Q&A sessions.  We believe North Penn School District has so many benefits to offer to our community.

Electing our candidates:  Ahsan Rhaman, Suzan Leonard, Alex Ryabin, Carolyn Murphy, and Paul Edelman, to the North Penn School Board is not about Democratic or Republican parties.  The position of School Board Director in Pennsylvania is a non-partisan position.  It is about who will be willing to "Take the 1st S.T.E.P. for North Penn School District".  We believe, along with your support, and votes, we are that first step.
